Jessica is a 14-year-old female who presents 2 days after experiencing sexual assault over the weekend. She is here today with her mother.

Jessica states she was at her friend’s house on Saturday night. Around 8pm they decided to walk down the street to play on the playground at the local elementary school. They were swinging on the swings when a boy they knew from school came up and started talking to them. Jessica cannot remember what he was saying, but the next thing she remembers is him grabbing her. Jessica states that her friend ran home and told her mom who then called the police. Jessica states the boy put his hand over her mouth, ripped her shorts off, and started to rape her. She reports vaginal penetration. When the police arrived, the boy ran away. Jessica and her mom state the police were able to find the boy and he has been questioned. As of now, he is not in custody and an investigation is ongoing. 

Following the assault, she was interviewed by the police and taken to the Emergency Department for a Sexual Assault Forensics Examination (SAFE) by a sexual assault nurse examiner. Perineal abrasions were noted; therefore, she was instructed to follow up with Gynecology today. In the Emergency Room she was given an injection of Ceftriaxone 500mg IM and a prescription for Doxycycline 100mg PO twice daily for 7 days and Metronidazole 500mg PO twice daily for 7 days. She has not yet picked up the prescriptions from the pharmacy but plans to today. She was not given emergency contraception. A urine pregnancy test on the day of the assault was negative. Genital swabs for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomonas were negative. Blood work for HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis C Antibody were also performed and returned negative.
