A 14-year-old female with no significant medical history presents acutely to the Emergency Department (ED) complaining of right-sided abdominal pain. She complains of dull and achy lower abdominal pain for several days and tonight was awakened from her sleep with severe pain, rating 8/10. Pain is sharp and stabbing, located mainly in her right lower quadrant, not radiating to other areas. She is nauseated and reports non-projectile, non-bilious, non-bloody vomiting 5 times in the past 24 hours, most recently just prior to coming to the ED. She reports poor appetite. She denies fevers or chills, diarrhea, constipation, urinary frequency or urgency. Over the past couple of months, she has noted sharp, intermittent twinges of pain in the same area, but not to this intensity.
